COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Work Safely at Heights course is designed for participants who may be required to undertake task involving working at a height in the resource and infrastructure industries. This course is structured to enable participants to effectively assess a range of situations where a height risk exists and ensure proper controls are in place. Successful students will be competent in identifying applicable/relevant documentation for working at heights, as well as inspecting and using applicable fall protective equipment. This course will also assist students to participate in risk evaluation, controls methods used to construct WMS, JSAs and procedures.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This course is applicable for workers who may be required to work at heights and use approved fall prevention equipment and follow relevant safety documentation. Managers and Supervisors with responsibility for worker’s safety and the development and maintenance of safety documentation will also find this course beneficial.

Full course: 8 hours face-to-face training

COURSE PREREQUISITES

There are no prerequisites for this course

AWARD ISSUED

This is a nationally accredited course, students who successfully complete this training will be awarded the statement of attainment for RIIWHS204D Work safely at heights

ASSESSMENT

The following assessment tasks are required for this course:

  • Theory Questions consisting of multiple choice and short answer questions
  • Simulated Practical Scenarios

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

  • locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedureS

Demonstrates consistent timely completion of work at heights that safely, effectively and efficiently meets the required outcomes on a minimum of three (3) separate occasions including:

  • accessing, interpreting and applying technical and safety information for working at heights
  • assessing hazards and risk associated with working at heights and implement control methods
  • selecting wearing and caring for personal protective equipment
  • identifying required safety systems including fall protection and associated equipment
  • checking that fitting, adjusting and anchoring of fall protection and associated equipment is correct
  • performing work safely at heights

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of the following when working safely at heights:

  • names and functions of equipment, components and materials
  • complying with equipment manufacturer’s instructions and specifications safe shifting and handling of tools and materials
  • adhering to statutory and regulatory authority requirements
  • the nature of work undertaken at heights
  • complying with heights safety systems
  • the processes of providing for safe working practices
  • using safety equipment/systems and considerations to facilitate working safely at heights
  • complying with safe work methods
